Johnny Rabb resides in Nashville, TN and has worked in all aspects of the drum business. From owning a stick business to a performing artist, he continues to explore the drum world as a clinician, solo artist and touring studio drummer.

Performer

Johnny currently performs with his original duo Ten Finger Orchestra & Johnny Rabb, rock band U.S.S.A. (with Duane Denison, Paul Barker and Gary Call) and his Drum 'N' Bass group BioDiesel (featuring Clay Parnell and Borahm Lee). He has played with other artists/groups SheDaisy, Tanya Tucker, Hank Williams III, Deana Carter and Mindy McCready. In 2003, Johnny had the honor of touring with jazz trumpet legend, Maynard Ferguson.

He continues to perform freelance with MASAKing (Japanese DJ/HPD-10 artist), Chris Patterson (Drumjockey/Percussion/Steel Pan).

Clinician/Educator

Johnny is an active clinician performing hundreds of dates per year. He is a product specialist for the Roland Corporation providing clinics and training on the full line of V-DRUMS and electronic percussion instruments. He keeps busy with teaching, conducting master-classes and other workshops for DW/PDP, PRO-MARK, REMO and MEINL.

Author/Writer

In 2003, Johnny received an award for the #1 Educational Book/CD from "Modern Drummer's" Reader's Poll for his book "Jungle/Drum n' Bass for the Acoustic Drum Set". This book is one of many educational publications that he has written, recorded or filmed. His first video, "Hip House Groove" also received 4 stars from MD Magazine. Jim Keltner recognized Johnny's Freehand Technique and offered to produce his first video teaching this unique style of playing. Johnny's future plans include releasing his original videos on DVD and finishing The Freehand Technique book and DVD. He will also produce a full length DVD of all his playing styles, techniques and approaches to the electronic and acoustic drum set. Johnny has also written many articles for DRUM, Modern Drummer and Stick It magazines.

Product Designer and Inventor

In 1996, Johnny designed the Rhythm Saw drumsticks which were awarded a U.S. Patent. He went on to design over 100 models of drumsticks for the Johnny Rabb Drumstick Company. He also designed the MIPA award winning Rabb Pack cymbal pack with the MEINL cymbal company in 2000. He continues to develop and innovate original ideas for products and sounds on the drums.
